DAMN THE TORPEDOES

Rich Kubicz
(Tom Petty… Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar)

Eager to be an all around entertainer (and with some coaxing from friends who asserted that he looked and sounded like Tom Petty), Rich started Damn the Torpedoes as a tribute to this great American icon. The daunting task was made even more challenging as Rich’s attention to detail could not be compromised. By surrounding himself with only the top local musicians, Rich is proud to present what he likes to call the “awe” factor in every performance.

Rich has been playing guitar and singing for 35 years. He has been writing music since his teens and released his first album Echo Lake in 2005. Shortly after Echo Lake’s release, Rich co-founded the E-zine Lets Rock America and brought dozen’s of American Indie Bands into the spotlight on the World Wide Web with articles and podcasts. In conjunction with LRA, Rich founded the very first Blank-Fest New Jersey in 2006 and has been organizing the annual marathon concert every 2nd Sunday in December to benefit the homeless ever since.

Michael T. Frio
(Benmont Tench/Scott Thurston… Keyboards, Piano, Guitar, Harmonica, Backing Vocals)

Michael grew up in a show business family.  His father Don played guitar with Buddy Rich and Ray Charles and had also been featured on The Ed Sullivan Show.   His Mother Virginia was a singer on American Bandstand.  It was no surprise that Mike followed in his parents footsteps first playing drums as early as two years old and learning classical piano as early as 4 years of age.  He added guitar and bass to his repertoire in his early teens.

When Mike is not touring with Damn The Torpedoes, he plays guitar and records with original North Jersey Hard Rock band Our Black Friday.  OBF have been featured guests on NJ Rock radio WDHA's Homegrown Spotlight numerous times in recent years.  Mike also does professional studio recording and writes his own music in his spare time.

Rob has been playing the Bass Guitar professionally for nearly thirty years.  Influenced by the heavy Bass lines of Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Rob convinced his parents to buy him a bass guitar at the age of 13.  He's been hooked on bass ever since!

Rob soon began playing with friends in an original hard rock band.  Wanting to explore other types of music, he pursued private Bass studies where he was introduced to many different musical styles including R & B, Blues, Funk and Jazz in addition to various types of Rock Music.

He has explored these styles by performing and/or recording with dozens of local NY Tri- State area acts including Bad Influence, The Blues Blasters, Soulmates, The Hudson Crawlers, One Track Mind, and Mina's Fantasy.

Rob continues to study with renowned Jazz educator Peter Prisco and pursue live performance and recording gigs that emphasize his continuing commitment to "respect the song while adding a great groove with killer tone".
